About Us

Little Ouse Headwaters Project (LOHP) is a volunteer charity, dedicated to the conservation and enjoyment of the wildlife, walks, and landscape of Little Ouse valley on the Norfolk/Suffolk border. Your help would benefit wildlife, people, and the climate.

The charity is run by a team of core volunteers working with our Conservation Manager, Ellie Beach. Its trustees are from the project area with particular knowledge and interests relevant to the project. Volunteer work parties maintain and improve the sites with specialist items being done by contractors.

You can read more about LOHP and access our document archive here.

The rivers Little Ouse and Waveney both have their origins in the shallow valley which marks the historic boundary between the counties of Norfolk and Suffolk. This river corridor formerly held the most extensive area of valley fenland habitat in England, uniting the great wildernesses of Breckland and Broadland. It has wildlife of international importance.

Our longer term aims and what we do:

  • To re-create, improve and maintain a continuous corridor of wildlife habitat along the headwaters of the Little Ouse by:

    • improving the wildlife diversity

    • where appropriate, restoring natural river features

    • improving water quality

  • To facilitate rural regeneration and land-use diversification.

  • To improve recreation, amenity and education value for the community.

  • To improve landscape quality and safeguard against flooding.
